W. M. Pearce

William M. Pearce (1913–1999) held the Ph.D. degree in history from the University of Texas. He wrote this book while he was academic vice-president of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where he studied the voluminous records of the Matador Land and Cattle Company in the university’s Southwest Collection. Pearce served as president of Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth, from 1968 until he retired in 1978.
