Variorum Chaucer Series

About the Series

The Variorum Chaucer project provides both an analysis of the textual history of Chaucer’s individual works and a comprehensive overview of all facets of critical commentary on each work. Textual analysis begins with collation of important manuscripts and printed editions of the work in question. The process allows one to see how copyists and editors, from the fifteenth century to the late twentieth century, have understood, revised, presented, and explained the language of Chaucer’s works. The survey of criticism provides a historical survey of all commentary on each aspect of a given work: sources and analogues, date, relationship to other Chaucerian works, thematic considerations, and individual passages, phrases, and words.

Daniel Ransom, Series Editor

Daniel Ransom is Professor of English at the University of Oklahoma. He is the author of Poets at Play: Irony and Parody in the Harley Lyrics.
