Northwest Historical Series
About the Series
The early history of the Pacific Northwest, including Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana, are the subject of this ongoing series of monographs. America’s first contact with the Far West was made on the Pacific Coast in the late eighteenth century through the Boston Men–fur traders who traded along the coast. From these earliest contacts through the fur trade adventures of the Hudson’s Bay Company, to the early missionary experiences of Whitman, Spalding, the Jesuits led by DeSmet, and others, this series is contains a wealth of original research and documentary material on one of the country’s most important, and most neglected, regional historical fields.
