Jon Lauck will give a talk titled “Finding the American Midwest” during a stop at the Butler on April 4 at noon. Lauck recently published The Good Country: A History of the American Midwest, 1800-1900 and he has served as president of the Midwestern History Association and as editor of the journal Middle West Review. Lauck will discuss how the Midwest has been neglected by historians and other scholars in comparison to other regions and discuss some critical moments in Midwestern history. He will also discuss a recent poll conducted by Middle West Review on who considers themselves a Midwesterner.
